Co-operation agreement inked for construction of $500m fertiliser plant in Uzbekistan

A Co-operation Agreement involving Uzbekistan-operating companies Ferkensco Management Ltd and Enter Engineering Pte. alongside Swiss company Casale SA has been inked to support the construction of an ammonia-based fertiliser plant in Uzbekistan.

Signed at the Tashkent International Investment Forum, the new agreement represents the foundation for future co-operation between the three companies to bring to life this significant production complex with an estimated total investment of US$500 million.

Following Casale’s award in 2021 to provide all licenses and front-end engineering design for the ammonia, urea, and granulation facilities, and with the support of European funding, this new agreement confirms Casale SA as a unique partner, and its technology will ensure continuity in the plant’s design development and in the supply of critical equipment.

Casale SA, supported by local design institute UzlitiEngineering, has been appointed as General Designer for the project.

The construction of a state-of-the-art plant for the production of mineral fertilisers based on ammonia will take place in the city of Yangiyer, in the Syrdarya region of Uzbekistan. The project will help to further develop, diversify, and increase the investment attractiveness of the chemical industry in the country. On completion, the plant will produce up to 495,000 tons of ammonia and 594,000 tons of granular urea.

The project’s completion date is expected to be in the first half of 2025, and the construction of the plant will create more than 500 new jobs locally.

“A milestone in the development of an important project for the country”

Ferkensco’s Head of Representative office, Timur Juraev, said: “We are delighted that our focus on long-term international co-operation with such reliable partners as Casale SA and Enter Engineering is bringing positive results. Today’s agreement is a new milestone in the development of an important project for our country. This modern facility, when completed, will produce highly efficient nitrogen mineral fertilisers, helping Uzbekistan meet domestic demand, and also expand foreign market trade.”

Lorenzo Pennino, Head of the Commercial Division at Casale SA, said his firm was grateful to have entered into a long-term partnership with Ferkensco Management Ltd, thus enhancing Casale’s international reach thanks to the new collaboration in Uzbekistan. “Our goal is to continue leveraging our strengths by providing top quality technical expertise with an unyielding focus on efficiency, reliability, and safety.”

Alfonso Tengco, Authorized Representative of Enter Engineering, said the new agreement “builds on a successful and longstanding relationship between Casale SA and Ferkensco Management Ltd in the implementation of this important project”. He added: “We are proud to be part of this initiative, and will leverage our EPC experience and expertise to ensure that Uzbekistan has a modern and efficient plant capable of providing its agricultural sector with high-value fertiliser products.”
