AUTOMA 2019 reveals new trends, innovati

AUTOMA 2019 – the Oil & Gas Automation and Digitalisation Congress – concluded earlier this week in Zurich, Switzerland, having explored the latest trends, projects, innovations and technologies in the increasingly vital spheres of automation and digitalisation.

Key international players from the upstream, midstream and downstream segments of the oil & gas industry attended AUTOMA 2019. Representatives from oil & gas companies, EPC contractors, refineries, pipeline operators, equipment manufacturers and service providers all gathered at the premier event to discuss the important and ever-expanding role that digitalisation and automation are playing in their industry.

Insights from over 60 speakers

More than 60 speakers shared their project updates, innovations and case studies surrounding the automation and digitalisation for each segment of the oil & gas industry: from field operations through to refinery rejuvenation.

Some of the key speakers at the premier insight event included: Ahmed Khamassi (Vice President of Data Science at COO DIGITAL Centre of Excellence, Equinor), Elisabetta Purlalli (Senior VP, Head of Digital Competence Center, Change Management & Communication, Eni S.p.A.), Dr Claus-Peter Hälsig (Vice President of Process and Technology, FLUOR), Andzhey Arshavskiy (Head of Data Monetization and Development Centre at Gazprom Neft), Claudia Zuluaga (Principal Digital Product Manager at Shell) and Éva Hornyák (Process Information & Automation Expert at MOL Group).

Novel new tech from start-ups

One of the Congress’s sessions was entirely devoted to the short presentations from start-up companies, who showcased their novel new technologies and solutions to investors, oil companies, system integrators and end-users alike. Just as last year, this feature attracted major companies who are constantly searching for fresh ideas and are ready to invest in innovative start-ups.

Across the two days of the Congress, more than 300 decision-makers – from both technical and development sides of business – had an opportunity to visit the various sessions and take part in discussions. Moreover, the oil & gas industry professionals from across the globe were offered a unique atmosphere within which to conduct productive networking and locate new business contacts for future co-operation.
