Dominique Llonch has become the new Chairman of Nidec Industrial Solutions (NIS), the commercial platform of the electrical systems giant Nidec Group, and CEO of Nidec ASI – a lead player in the Industrial Solutions sector. Mr Llonch succeeds Giovanni Barra, who has been at the helm of the Milan-headquartered company since 2013.

Dominique Llonch takes on this strategic role in a new important phase for Nidec ASI, as it strives to consolidate its position as a leading electrical engineering player. The firm said it is a role Mr Llonch has been appointed to fill by virtue of his “deep knowledge of the sector and the various industries in which Nidec ASI operates”, alongside his international record, which “has allowed him to acquire a real understanding of the needs of customers operating in all major global markets”.

Over 25 years’ experience

Dominique Llonch has over 25 years of experience in the Aerospace, Oil & Gas, Transmission & Distribution, and Power Generation sectors. He began his career as Program Manager for digital controls in Jet Engines, and then became Engineering and Service leader for Oil & Gas applications in DCS Solutions. He then held various positions of responsibility in the services, engineering, production and project execution areas, working in different regions of the world, including China, India, Russia, Europe, United States, the Middle East and Africa.

Mr Llonch has also held roles in the Industry and Energy sectors. As Vice-Chairman of the Power Automation & Controls business at a global level in ALSTOM Power, he was responsible for around 200 C&I projects for the construction of every type of power plant. He reorganised the business and refocused management’s attention on production and service excellence and on technological innovation in order to offer the best customer experience possible and to promote planned profitable strategic growth. Before joining Nidec, he held the position of General Manager Projects Europe & Africa in General Electric, managing the development of gas-fired plants for a value of over €5 billion.

Continuing Nidec’s growth path

Mr Llonch, who has a Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering and a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) – said that he aimed to offer Nidec ASI his experience” in outlining and implementing successful strategies” for reference companies in the sector. “I am confident that, with the co-operation of a close-knit team composed of excellent professionals, Nidec ASI will be able to continue its path of growth, developing innovative solutions that respond to the needs of various markets and contributing to the competitiveness of the countries in which it operates,” he added.

Nidec Industrial Solutions (NIS), which brings together the products and services of Nidec ASI, Avtron Industrial Automation, Nidec Industrial Automation and Motortecnica, offers customised electrical systems solutions for an array of industrial applications worldwide – its reference segments being the petrochemical, traditional and renewable energy, steel, naval and industrial automation markets. The multinational is specialised in heavy-duty applications in which high power and high performance are key. Since acquisition of the Motors, Drives and Electric Power Generation divisions of Emerson Electric Co., Nidec ASI has integrated medium and low power drives into the overall range offered by the Group. Last year the Group also acquired both Control Techniques and Leroy-Somer, which has enabled it to offer technologies optimised for the control of motors and to develop automation solutions for specific applications.
