Ministry urges contractors to invest in Indonesian infrastructure

Indonesia’s Minister of National Development Planning, Bambang Brodjonegoro, has called on contractors to invest in major projects and drive the private sector. Speaking at yesterday morning’s opening ceremony of leading construction event Konstruksi Indonesia and The Big 5 Construct Indonesia (KIBIG5) at the Jakarta Convention Center, Mr Brodjonegoro, encouraged contractors in the region to move away from operator-based thinking, and to instead consider investment in Indonesia’s booming infrastructure.
“Contractors in Indonesia have grown so much that they have the capacity to be more than just contractors, they can become investors as well” explained Rido Matari, Head of the Regional Infrastructure Development Agency at The Ministry of Public Works and Housing Indonesia (PUPR), also speaking at the KIBIG5 – the flagship event of Indonesia Infrastructure Week (IIW) that concludes tomorrow (Friday 10th).
Having held a highly attended CPD (continued professional development) certified workshop during the opening morning of KIBIG5, Mr Rido went on to outline that, “as investors, contractors know better whether they can get profit from a project or not, following that, they will make gains from more than just the construction phase.”
Event Director for The Big 5 Construct Indonesia, Muhammed Kazi, reported that “innovative construction products and solutions from all sectors are filling the trade floor this year – and seeing evolution at various levels sheds light on the prosperity that government and traders alike anticipate for the industry in Indonesia.”
In addition to the Minister’s call-to-action at the opening ceremony, the construction industry in Indonesia was mapped out and its future encouraged by the Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN), Roslan Roeslani, and Representative Danis Sumadilaga for Director General of the Construction Division at PUPR.
Other forward-thinking features at the ongoing Konstruksi Indonesia and The Big 5 Construct Indonesia include a series of CPD workshops covering topics such as Sustainability and Technology talks, a unique Global Meetings Programme matching key buyers and sellers, and a wealth of co-located events running alongside KIBIG5 under Indonesia Infrastructure Week (IIW).
The 15th annual edition of Konstruksi Indonesia (KI) and the 3rd annual edition of The Big 5 Construct Indonesia are jointly organised by Tarsus Indonesia and dmg events Middle East, Asia and Africa.
