AUTOMA 2021: Eni to present its supercomputer HPC5 and Green Data Center on Day 3

The 2021 edition of the Oil and Gas Automation and Digitalization Congress (AUTOMA) has added another day to its schedule for Eni’s presentation on 21 April. Launched in February, HPC5 became the most powerful supercomputer for industrial use – and an essential tool to shape the energy of the future.

With 51.7 petaFlops of computing power, HPC5 is a strategic asset for Eni’s ongoing technological and digitalization progress, as it allows researchers to use sophisticated algorithms for subs-surface data processing, resulting in higher underground rocks studies accuracy.

HPC5: Accelerating the transition to a low-carbon energy system

On the morning of Wednesday 21st April as part of the AUTOMA 2021 virtual event, Eni will present its two-hour interactive panel dedicated to HPC5 to explain how it accelerates the company's transformation towards a sustainable and low-carbon energy system, alongside how the research activity carried out in the last year within the EXSCALATE4CoV project is helping in the battle against Covid-19.

The speakers are among Eni’s most experienced professionals: Alberto Delbianco, Head of Downstream R&D, and Silvia Pavoni, Crude Oil Valorization & Fuels Knowledge Owner.

An online tour through Eni’s Green Data Centre

The follow-up presentation will introduce the Green Data Centre, where all of Eni’s supercomputing systems, data and central processing systems are located and maintained.

A world-class example of environmentally aware design, the Green Data Centre manages 98 per cent of its cooling needs with the use of external air, while most of its electricity necessities are supplied by a nearby power plant and an on-site solar power station.

During its presentation, Eni will give an online tour through one of the world’s most energy efficient data centers.

The AUTOMA Congress will take place online – on the BGS Online platform – from 19–21 April 2021.
