Future Minerals Forum 2023 – Day One highlights

Day One of Future Minerals Forum 2023 saw the participation of more than 12,000 delegates from 130 countries, in addition to 200 speakers. Returning to Riyadh in 2023 for its second edition, FMF also featured powerful debate on the future of minerals and investment in mining from Africa to Central Asia on its opening day.

FMF 2023 – hosted by the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources, under the auspices of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz – opened its doors at the King Abdulaziz International Conference Center, with an auspicious opening ceremony that was attended by over 1,500 attendees including ministers, c-level industry leaders, regulators, government officials and media.

A particular highlight from Day 1 of the Future Minerals Forum was a Fireside Chat featuring John Defterios (Professor of Business, NYU-Abu Dhabi) and Mike Henry (Chief Executive Officer, BHP). The chat was focused on mining and owning the energy transition, encompassing mineral potential, and becoming ESG and climate smart.

FMF 2023 saw 25 MoUs, joint ventures and agreements exchanged on its opening day. These agreements and Memoranda of Understanding covered mineral exploration, technology and communications, the application of sustainability standards, localisation and rehabilitation, and industrialisation in the minerals sector.

Meanwhile, the FMF 2023 exhibition hosted over 100 international and regional technology and solution providers, showcasing the latest innovations supporting the industry. The exhibition was also attended by over 12,000 visitors on Day 1.
