Lesjöfors – the largest spring manufacturing company in the Baltics – has established a new super-efficient and highly sustainable manufacturing plant in Liepaja, Latvia.

 

The production facility has been in full swing since April, having been handed over an impressive six months ahead of schedule. And the plant is “already exceeding everyone’s expectations”, according to the manufacturer, who said the new factory is “optimised not only for a streamlined production, but also for a healthy working environment”. 

Optimised premises

Spanning 11,300 square metres, Lesjöfors’ new factory in Liepaja comprises all the firm’s manufacturing of springs, gas springs and pressings in Latvia. Prior to the opening of the plant, such production was spread across six different manufacturing buildings at two locations. The new location on the city map is very good for the transportation of both goods and people, as well as providing good access to surrounding services. 

To have all manufacturing activities under one roof brings many advantages, the firm has stated. The manufacturing rooms are all carefully designed to meet the diverse requirements of different spring type production. During the relocation process, the management’s focus was to keep only the latest machinery on the market to assure high quality products. The project team also worked hard to streamline process flows as well as material logistics.  

Sustainability in focus

In the planning process of the new building, the project team had Lesjöfors’ sustainability goals in focus at all times. Every detail in the factory was important to increase productivity, save energy and reduce transportation. There are also co-ordination benefits to having an integrated manufacturing unit, which can also add to the sustainability objectives. 

“Our new, updated machinery that replaced the old machines is also an important step for us to be not only more productive but also more environmentally friendly,” noted Ingars Jaunzems, MD of Lesjöfors Springs LV. “We’re very happy that Lesjöfors’ management team understands the great potential here and believes in us.
