Security electro-optics expert HGH signs new contract to protect offshore oil platform off North African coast

To mark the ADIPEC tradeshow taking place this week in Abu Dhabi, security electro-optics expert HGH has announced the signing of a new contract to secure an offshore platform over 360°, with its SPYNEL IR solution.

Alongside its new SPYNEL IR solution, Paris-headquartered HGH is showcasing all the latest security innovations for offshore and onshore applications this week at booth 13622 at ADIPEC – including the new AI module for CYCLOPE software, which is integrated into each SPYNEL sensor.

Offshore platforms – a target of choice for terrorism

Highly vulnerable, isolated in the middle of the ocean, offshore platforms represent a target of choice for terrorism. The major challenge for oil rigs is to be able to speed up their decision-making in the event of an unwanted critical situation, while facing harsh weather, extreme temperatures and vibrations. The SPYNEL sensor will be mounted on a high position on the offshore platform, providing a full 360° sea-coverage and long-range surveillance up to the horizon, day and night.

Among the new features of CYCLOPE software, integrated in each SPYNEL sensor, the software’s new Artificial Intelligence capability will be revealed at ADIPEC. This deep learning module enables automatic recognition and classification of all types of detected objects, such as RHIBs, wooden boats, swimmers, and UAVs. Thanks to a smart Behaviour Analysis, operators can configure the software so that defined security actions are automatically triggered if abnormal behaviours are detected, or if a boat approaching the rig has an unknown AIS.

“SPYNEL panoramic thermal cameras now include the latest imaging technologies – offering the best of detection, tracking, identification and classification for unprecedented protection of onshore and offshore facilities,” noted Hervé Berthelot, Middle East Business Developer at HGH, exhibiting this week at ADIPEC.

For more information, visit HGH at Booth #13622 at ADIPEC, this week (15–18 November) at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.
